LG: Fulfil your fantasy

CES: LG Super Multi Blue

The latest news from the Consumer Electronics Show 2007 in Las Vegas

LG have debuted the Super Multi Blue Player (BH100) – the industry’s first dual-format high-definition disc player. Incorporating both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats, LG are bridging the gap between the technologies. This digital divide is causing many technical and entertainment companies to choose sides, so we’re all in favour of combined technology.

The Super Multi Blue Player should be available in the first quarter of 2007, at a cost of $1,199. Also launching are the Super Multi Blue disk drive that is compatible with Blu-ray Disc, DVD, CD read/write and HD-DVD-ROM (read); and the BH100 that just reads HD-DVD and Blue-Ray disks. Read more

Review: LG KF600

kf600The LG KF600 is a modern, stylish slide phone, following on from LGs Chocolate with an adaptive touchscreen navigation and control system taking up a third of the screen area.

Other features include Bluetooth 2, supporting A2DP, which is the current standard for Bluetooth stereo audio; a 3.0 Megapixel camera; and a Micro SD slot inside the phone, which inconveniently requires the battery to be removed.

Overall, the KF600 is a very usable phone. I recently used it for a week, and found it the most pleasurable I’ve used. The phone has excellent build quality with incredibly satisfying feedback from the sliding mechanism.

The touch screen was very informative, and took just the right amount of pressure to make it function, but a worry was that the soft plastic used for the touch screen was used for the rest of the screen as well. One great function was when images are being reviewed, the touch screen displays a thumbnail of the image, allowing speedy navigation across it whilst zoomed in… Read more

Size really does matter as manufacturers look for new and innovative ways to loosen Apples strangle hold on the MP3 player market. The latest is the announcement from LG of the ultra-stylish MFFM37, their first touch-screen video player.

Chic and compact, the LG MFFM37 made in light-weight aluminium measures just 51.5mm wide, 90mm long and 9.9mm thick is available in 2Gb and 4Gb options.

The MP3 player has an easy-to-use touch screen, which features a customisable and interactive interface on a 2.4inch LCD display. With LG’s Mobile XD Engine built-in the player claims to offer a better viewing experience.

LG unites HD DVD & Blu-Ray

The whole next-generation DVD format war between Sony’s Blu-ray and Toshiba’s HD DVD formats is like watching a Rocky film, you know its going to go the full 15 rounds, it’s a shame though the ending isn’t as predictable…!

It’s clear that the market isn’t big enough for two formats and that one format will die, however which is going to bite the dust first is a question no one can yet answer with any degree of certainty.

So in wade the hardware manufacturers with a solution that should sway a few more of those undecided. LG have announced the first dual-format high-definition player with the Super Multi Blue otherwise known as the BH100 — thank heaven for some common sense! Read more

LG launches Chocolate Platinum

LG Mobile has announced the launch of a luxury version of its Chocolate phone series. The KE800, or Chocolate Platinum has an SD card memory slot, an upgraded 2 mega-pixel camera an FM radio and twice as much on-board memory as the original Chocolate handset (256MB rather than 128MB). It also has an upgraded MP3, MPEG-4 and AAC music and video player and stereo Bluetooth functionality.

LG Chocolate Platinum is sure to be a popular addition to the Chocolate range of handsets. The original phone – launched in Europe in May 2006 – has sold over three million handsets globally. No word yet on pricing or availability.
