Giveaway 3: Write a Review

Posted on 6th March 2007 at 10:31am BST in Articles by Gerard Boyers

It's competition time again here at Shock Gadgets, and we have some more bluetooth goodies to go to the winner.

The prizes are one Iqua BHS-701 bluetooth music headset and one Jabra BT125 bluetooth headset (pictured).

To win, all you have to do is write your own review about any modern technological gadget, and post it as a reply to this topic. The best reviews will win the prizes - dead simple.

Have a look at all our existing reviews to get an idea of what should go into it. Length can be anything from 500 words to 2,000 - so you have plenty of room to say what you want. No plagiarism - entrants who are found to have copied their review, in whole or in part, from another source may be disqualified from this and future competitions.

Good reviews may be posted on the site for everybody to see. Anybody who writes a really good review may even be offered a job on the ShockGadgets team.

Putting in lots of detail and humour will give you the best chance of winning. The competition will run for at least a week.

Good Luck

Giveaway 2: Music Headset

Posted on 16th January 2007 at 19:29pm BST in Articles by Gerard Boyers

As a surprise to our forum members, we decided to instigate a competition without telling anybody…

How so? The winner of this competition must have at least one post and must be a member of our forums (not staff or banned). The winner will receive a iqua BHS-701 Bluetooth Music Headset, and will be drawn at random from our member database by a nice SQL Query:

SELECT * FROM ibf_members where mgroup = 3 and posts > 0 order by rand() limit 1

This will select all our members with one post or more, ordered at random, but showing only the first one from the random list. There will be two tests of the query (to prove it works) and then a final winner will be drawn. This is a fair method of selecting one random winner.

The Results

The time of this draw is 19:13 (GMT) on the 15th January 2007 - winners selected at random by MySQL.

Test 1: Ciaran (ID: 11)
Test 2: Jace (ID: 12)
Winner: Marc (ID: 20)

Congratulations to Marc for winning - everybody else watch out for more competitions coming up. Thanks to iqua for providing the prize.

Kontron's new rugged NotePAC

Posted on 16th December 2006 at 20:42pm BST in Articles by Gerard Boyers

As you will find out over the next few weeks, I'm a big fan of anything you can kick without damaging it. After recently submerging my laptop in delicious lemonade, the new NotePAC rugged 13lb laptop from Kontron caught my eye.

It impressively boasts a dual-core Intel Core Duo processor, clocking in at 1.66Ghz, with up to 2gb of RAM, a 12.1′ or 14.1′ LCD (touchscreen, no less), removable 80 GB or 120GB SATA hard drives (in sealed shock-absorbing cartridges), and even a hard disc heater that keeps your platters spinning down to minus 36 degrees Fahrenheit. Connectivity isn't an issue, with twin PCMCIA slots, gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, VGA output and options of UMTS, GSM, GPRS, GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth.

This thing fully works with Windows XP, but can also be used with linux (SUSE runs well apparently). No price yet, but you'll be able to customise it next month. See a picture on the read more link.
